About
Alexis
A Chicago-born newcomer to the New York City music scene,
Alexis Booth boasts a booming, soulful voice and a disarming
Midwestern smile and charm that truly captivate.
The daughter of a professional singer and granddaughter
of a pianist/comedian who headlined for a 1930s big band,
Alexis was born with a rare combination of an honest voice
and a natural flair for performing. Her songs run the gamut
of emotions, from playful to sweet to melancholy, and her
live performances are sure to take a listener through a
journey of feeling.
Audiences often compare Alexis's sound to that of Norah
Jones, which comes as no surprise - Alexis was awarded the
same prestigious "Best Jazz Vocal Soloist" award that was
bestowed upon Jones the previous year by prominent jazz
publication Downbeat Magazine. Alexis herself alludes
to influences by greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha
Franklin, Carole King, Tori Amos, and Sarah McLachlan.
(If that's not enough, you can read a slightly more personal statement here).
