A More Personal Statement
Listen, I’m not going to get you all psyched up by a bunch
of hype. It's not going to do a damn thing to tell you about
who I am. So let me try something a little different here.
Hello. My name is Alexis Booth. I write music, and I sing.
Since I can remember as a child, I have had music gushing
through my veins. Anytime I have a really strong emotion
– sad, distressed, angry, lonely, elated – I sing myself
through the experience. I sing in my own words, in my own
voice, about exactly what I’m feeling, about the madness
that’s going through my mind at a particular moment in time.
Bit by bit, I’m gaining converts. I sing a lot in places
you won’t find me unless chance is in the mood that day.
I perform in a lot of people’s living rooms and backyards,
and at open mics. I like the intimacy of small spaces where
I feel like I can envelop a room in the emotions I'm singing
about.
I don’t have a "schtick" or a lot of propaganda to sell
you on; all I have is the raw me. I make people laugh, and
I make people cry. Simply put, I make people feel.
To me, music is about bottling a moment in time in a way
that somebody else can experience it again and again. And
that is what I aim to do. I wrote and sing my songs from
my own experiences, and you will listen through yours. If
I somehow manage to touch you as a person, that's what's
memorable. And that's what I aspire to do with my music.
At worst, I hope you leave here - or a performance of mine
- at least a little more aware of yourself and your ability
to feel than you were before. To me, that’s what my music
- and my life - is all about.
At best, maybe I'll make a convert out of you.
Thanks for taking the time to hear me out.
- Alexis
